Privacy Policy

How Unwire Launch collects, uses, shares and protects your personal data, and your rights under Hong Kong's Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance.

1. Who we are

Unwire Launch (launch.unwire.hk, the "Site") is operated by Unwire ("we", "us"), 5th Floor, Hay Nien Building, No. 1 Tai Yip Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong. We are the data user responsible for your personal data and we comply with the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance (Cap. 486) of Hong Kong (the "PDPO").

This policy also serves as our Personal Information Collection Statement. It applies to the Site and to emails we send you. Questions about it: eric.leung@unwire.hk.

2. Personal data we collect

  • Account data — your email address; if you sign in with Google, your name, email address and profile picture from your Google account.
  • Profile data — display name, @handle, bio, avatar and social links you add. Your profile is public by default.
  • Content and activity — products you submit or claim (including text, links, images and team member details), reviews, comments, upvotes, likes, helpful marks, follows, bookmarks and the unwire Points you earn.
  • Newsletter — your email address, if you subscribe.
  • Payments — when you buy advertising or a listing upgrade: your email address and order details. Card details go directly to our payment processor, Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • Reports and messages — your email address and what you tell us when you report a listing or contact us.
  • Technical data — IP address, browser and device information (user agent), and sign-in session records. Our analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) is cookie-free and reports aggregated page views and events; it does not build a profile of you.

We do not ask for sensitive data such as identity card numbers, and we do not buy personal data from others.

3. How we use your data

We use personal data only for these purposes, or directly related ones:

  • creating and securing your account and signing you in (including emailing sign-in links);
  • showing your public profile, products and contributions on the Site;
  • running the community — rankings, leaderboards, points, awards and notifications;
  • reviewing, editing, translating and publishing product submissions (we may use AI services to draft or translate listing text from the product information submitted);
  • processing payments and delivering what you bought;
  • sending the newsletter, if you subscribed (see Direct marketing);
  • responding to reports, enquiries and requests;
  • preventing spam, fraud, vote manipulation and abuse, including rate-limiting by IP address;
  • understanding, in aggregate, how the Site is used so we can improve it;
  • complying with the law and with lawful requests from authorities.

If we want to use your data for a new purpose that is not directly related, we will ask for your consent first.

4. Is providing data required?

An email address (or a Google account) is required to create an account, and an email address is required to subscribe to the newsletter or buy advertising. Without it we cannot provide those services. Everything else — profile details, bio, social links — is optional. You can browse the Site without giving us any personal data.

5. What is public

Your display name, @handle, avatar, bio, social links, submitted products, reviews, comments, upvotes on your profile, followers and points are visible to anyone and may be indexed by search engines and AI services. Please don't post personal data you don't want to be public, and never post other people's personal data without their consent.

6. Direct marketing

We only send marketing emails (our newsletter) if you subscribe to it yourself. Creating an account does not subscribe you.

  • Data used: your email address (and your name, if you have an account).
  • What we send: new product launches, community highlights and events, and news about Unwire Launch services such as advertising and listing upgrades.
  • Who sends it: us, using our email providers (Beehiiv and Resend) on our behalf. We do not sell your data or provide it to anyone for their own marketing.
  • Opting out: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter, or email us, at any time and free of charge. We will stop using your data for marketing.

Service emails you can't opt out of while you have an account — sign-in links, security notices and replies to your requests — are not marketing.

7. Who we share data with

We share personal data only with service providers who process it for us under contract and only for the purposes above:

  • Vercel — website hosting, file storage and cookie-free analytics.
  • Neon — our database (hosted in Singapore).
  • Google — sign-in, if you choose to sign in with Google.
  • Resend — sign-in and service emails; newsletter contact list.
  • Beehiiv — newsletter delivery.
  • Stripe — payment processing.
  • AI and web services (via Vercel AI Gateway, ScreenshotOne, Jina) — to draft, translate and illustrate product listings from the product information and public product websites submitted. We don't send your account data to them.
  • Infrastructure providers — caching and rate-limiting.

We may also disclose data when required by law, court order or a lawful request from a Hong Kong or other competent authority; to protect the rights, safety and property of users or the public; or to a successor if the Site is sold or transferred, who must continue to protect it under this policy.

8. Transfers outside Hong Kong

Our service providers store and process data outside Hong Kong — including in Singapore, the United States and other countries where they operate. We choose reputable providers and take reasonably practicable steps, including contractual and security safeguards, so that your data receives protection comparable to the PDPO wherever it is processed.

9. How long we keep data

  • Account, profile and contributions: while your account is active. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymise its personal data within 30 days, unless the law requires us to keep it.
  • Sign-in sessions: expire after 7 days of inactivity.
  • Rate-limiting records (IP addresses): expire within 24 hours.
  • Newsletter: until you unsubscribe.
  • Payment and order records: 7 years, as required by Hong Kong tax law.
  • Reports and enquiries: as long as needed to handle them, then deleted.

We don't keep personal data longer than necessary for the purpose it was collected for.

10. How we protect data

We use HTTPS encryption, access controls limited to people who need access, secure session cookies, and providers with industry-standard security. No system is perfectly secure; if a data breach affects you in a way likely to cause real harm, we will notify you and the Privacy Commissioner as appropriate.

11. Cookies and similar technologies

We use only what the Site needs to work:

  • Sign-in cookies — keep you signed in securely.
  • Sign-in hint (ul_signed_in) — tells your browser whether to check your sign-in status; it contains no personal data.
  • Language (NEXT_LOCALE) — remembers your language.
  • Theme — your light/dark preference, stored in your browser.

We don't use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. Blocking cookies in your browser will prevent signing in.

12. Your rights

Under the PDPO you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold your personal data and request a copy of it (a data access request);
  • ask us to correct personal data that is inaccurate;
  • withdraw consent to direct marketing at any time.

You can update most profile details yourself in your dashboard. For access or correction requests, email eric.leung@unwire.hk; for a data access request you may use the Privacy Commissioner's Data Access Request Form. We will respond within 40 days as the PDPO requires. We may charge a fee for complying with a data access request, which will not be excessive, and we may refuse a request where the PDPO permits, telling you why. You can also ask us to delete your account.

13. Children

You must be at least 13 to create an account. If you are under 18, please get your parent's or guardian's consent first. If we learn that we hold personal data of a child under 13, we will delete it.

14. Third-party websites and products

The Site links to products and websites run by others. Their privacy practices are their own responsibility; please read their policies before giving them your data.

15. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We'll change the date at the top, and for significant changes we'll give notice on the Site or by email before they take effect.

16. Contact and complaints

For any privacy question or request, contact our privacy contact at eric.leung@unwire.hk or write to Unwire, 5th Floor, Hay Nien Building, No. 1 Tai Yip Street, Kwun Tong, Kowloon, Hong Kong.

If you're not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong.

This policy is available in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. If the versions differ, the English version prevails.
