Choosing an AI tool is easier when the decision is treated as a product and risk assessment rather than a popularity contest. Start with the job to be done, then compare evidence, privacy, reliability, and the cost of switching.

1. Define the job and the user

Write down the workflow the tool should improve, who will use it, what inputs it needs, and what a successful result looks like. A precise brief prevents a broad feature list from becoming the decision criteria.
